I have been super slow to jump on the electronic book phenomenon…think Kindle and Nook. I’m old school when it comes to books. I like to hold them in my hands, turn their pages, curl up with them…ok, now it sounds like I’m a freak that likes to have sex with books…wonder what that would be called? Anyways….
I have resisted buying electronic books until recently. It all started when I got an iPhone finally and brought myself into the 21stcentury. (I had an old flip phone from before the Razr for like 4 years.) Well, I started downloading all kinds of fun apps, including the Kindle app, and got all caught up in the amazingness of basically walking around with a computer in your purse/pocket. I downloaded all the free books on the Kindle app and started reading. Somewhere along the way I was desperate for a book on a cold, rainy night with no book store open and with no chance of me braving the nasty weather to see what the local 24 hour Walgreens had to offer. Then it was like the sky opened up and I heard angels singing from heaven…I have a Kindle app that gives me access to books at the click of a button (or touch of a screen in my case).
Now I’m even more excited because Amazon offers one book a day discounted to $0.99. This has made my book buying habit so much easier on my wallet…and my shoulder. I no longer have to lug around the 3 books that I may be reading at any given point in my purse. I can just pull out my handy dandy all in one amazing device known as the iPhone and read whatever fancies me at the moment.
Oh wait, there’s one more super exciting development. Now you can read your Kindle books on your computer too!!! So even if I happen to be somewhere that reading a book from my phone is inappropriate…or I just want to give my eyes a break from reading on a small screen…I can still get my read on.
I’ve officially reached dork status with this post…
**Don’t worry all you book Purists out there…I still buy the books I love or consider an investment piece. But for the quick easy reads it’s Kindle all the way.
