So not ready to face 2012...

Happy New Year peeps!

I rang in the New Year in style this year. The bf and I threw a banging party complete with a champagne flavoring bar, kinect competition, apples to apples, countdown, champagne toast at midnight and of course a kiss. J

This, however, was quickly followed by a fight breaking out which put a bit of a damper on the night. The reason for the fight is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of though. Keep in mind everyone involved is at least 23 years old…most were 25 and up. One of our friends brought some random ass chick to the party who somehow ends up in the bf’s roommate’s bed with another girl at the party with the 2nd girl’s fiancée watching.  Our friend who brought rando flips out when he sees it and starts throwing punches. (High school/college shit right?!?) Most guys would just be excited to see 2 girls hooking up…nope not our friend. He goes batshit instead. We kick 2nd girl and her fiancée out…calm our friend down and try to get on with the party when they decide to come back. I happen to open the door and get bulldozed by this bitch screaming. This is where I got mad and literally kicked her the fuck out of the bf’s apartment…with my 5 inch glittery heels.
Not to worry, by that time we were all too shit faced to really care and the party continued on.
Since then I’ve been busy celebrating by stuffing my face with chocolate and watching approximately 12 consecutive hours of Law & Order: SVU. I’ve been putting off reality for a while…along with resolutions…maybe by next week I’ll have my life back together enough to figure out what I want out of 2012.

Thanks Y'all

In true Straight Up Sundays/Thanksgiving spirit, I want to list the top 10 things I am most thankful for this holiday season:

1.)    The fact that white wine doesn’t stain your teeth (can’t see cavities in pictures).

2.)    Small things that vibrate.  Being single isn’t that bad after all. 0=)

3.)    Miranda Lambert will be in Charlotte in January.  Praise the Country Lords.

4.)    Jack Daniels Honey.  Soothes my soul every Sunday.

5.)    That my panthers are THE BOMB.COM this year (relatively speaking).  Cam Newton, would you like to come to my house for Thanksgiving?  Maybe Steve Smith can be your date?

6.)    Stretchy pants.  You will not see me in jeans on Thanksgiving day…. If so, they’ll likely be unzipped.

7.)    When my roommates clean.  Nothing makes me smile more than when I come home dreading to have to clean the kitchen and someone already did it for me.  LOVE! <3

8.)    Hot sauce.  Because that $#*^ t tastes good on everything.  Sorry, Chef.

9.)    Top Chef Texas’ new contestant, Chris Crary.  Yummy!

10.) These bitches on the blog with me… even though they NEVER BLOG ANYMORE!  (YEP that’s me calling y’all out).

Happy Thanksgiving, Sunday Lovers!

Chugging in the Dark

So last night was date night with the boy and it actually went well. Yay!! It’s the first one in a long time that hasn’t gone down in flames. Our last one ended with me crying like a baby while he passed out from eating and drinking to much…then heading to Mrs. Two Buck Chuck’s house with a 6 pack of Miller Light tallboys in hand to meet up with Elle Woods…followed by gratuitous drinking, cursing and man-hating. Needless to say, not the fun and sex filled night I had been looking forward to.

Well this time we started the date off right with a little boom boom action while getting ready. Who isn’t in a good mood after that? Come to think of it, maybe we should make that a stipulation…sex before date night…since we are usually too stuffed, shit-faced or tired (man, I’m getting old) to get it on by the end of the night anyways. But I digress…

Then we headed out to Kabuto, a Japanese steakhouse that I absolutely love. Shrimp sauce?...yes please!! I don’t know if it was me being in the post-coitus happy place…but I totally loved our chef and was cracking up the entire dinner. Then it was time to head to see Harry Potter!!!

Per our usual tradition, we stopped at the Dean & Deluca to pick up some adult beverages to sneak into the theater. Yep, that’s how we roll. I may not have been thinking very clearly because I bought a ½ bottle of wine…but didn’t think about the fact that I had no cup to drink it out of until we got into the theater and the movie was starting. So I’m sitting there with an illegal bottle of wine…in a movie theater…surrounded by young people…trying to figure out how to discreetly drink it.

Not to worry though. I sure as heck did not waste it and I didn’t even corrupt young minds in the process. I created a little drinking game that I like to call “Chug While the Screen is Dark.” Luckily, it was a pretty long movie and there were several well spaced “dark moments” that actually made getting my buzz on fairly easily. By the end of the movie, it may have been a bit more obvious what I was doing since I was having to literally turn the entire bottle up to get the last bit…but by that point I was feeling good enough to not care that much…plus I’m pretty sure everyone was way too into the movie to be paying attention to the lush chugging wine straight from bottle anyways. Or at least I hope so. J

Moral of the story:
For a fun night out with the boy “Straight Up” style – start the night off with a little “biscuit making” action…and don’t be afraid to act like a lush.

I’m seriously geeking out right now…

I am stuck at work on this lovely 4th of July weekend but it’s not even bothering me…well, not that much. Why am I ok being at work while all of my friends sleep in, go to farmer’s markets and do other fun things? Because I’ve got a pool party to look forward to tomorrow. And that means planning…one of my favorite pastimes.

Like I said “geeking” out…in the literal sense.

I have been totally engrossed in planning my menu, creating a fun poolside drink, and making lots of lists so I don’t forget anything. I am getting all kinds of giddy making my to do list for after my shift…including my shopping list.

Yay! Ok, back to it…I’ve got about 4 more lists to make and then I’ve got to time it all out so I can actually get all this crap done tonight.

Woohoo for geekiness!

Things I've Learned from my DOG

So my dog is my new favorite ever.  She is amazing and beautiful and SO STINKIN CUTE!  From having her the last couple weeks, I’ve learned a lot from her.  Here are just a few lessons...

1.)    Her favorite things are empty plastic water bottles ( thanks for helping me recycle, Minnie!) and eating boiled chicken… plain…  I guess I should take a few diet tips from my dog!
2.)    When people get on your nerves, just give them a little growl and move on.  Life’s too short to spend too much time barking at people.
3.)    Hugs and kisses make people happy.
4.)    Everyone looks better with their hair done – Minnie especially prefers bows.
5.)    Most importantly – relax – because life is good.

Happy.

Happy Monday Tuesday Friends!

As I’m sure you have learned here on Straight Up, we are some girls that really like to bitch. It seems as if we generally don’t like life. And if you are under that impression you are sorely mistaken because we love life! We love it a lot.

So I decided that on a day that most people hate their lives and their waist band after a long holiday weekend, I will write a positive post. Or at the very least it won’t be a bitchy post. That counts for something right?!

I had an absolute blast this weekend with my friends. Seriously it was one for the record books. We had a deliciously crazy Sunday Funday with plenty of good food, cold drinks, and a game or two twelve of my all time favorite out door game, flip cup.

And I spent a lazy day by the pool yesterday followed by a cookout and the new Hangover movie.

All and all I can’t complain one damn bit about this weekend. It was pretty effing spectacular.

That’s right Tuesday, I just made you my bitch. By ummmm not bitching?!

XOXOXO!

day 3 & 4

Day 3 I did good pretty good!  I never eat breakfast, and for lunch I had fruit and half of a grilled cheese bagel.  I EVEN put a big plate of fries on my lunch tray and STILL managed not to eat them!

For dinner, it was't necessarily GOOD but it was not FRIED - I had pizza.  Yummmm

Day 4 was another good one.  I had a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch, with only lettuce.  For dinner I had grilled chicken pasta.  (Listen people, carbs come off in a few weeks - so don't judge me!)

day 2 of 5

well hell... why did I think no fried foods for 5 days was a good idea?  oh yeah, that's right, because some stupid bitch told me she lost 6 pounds after she gave up the fried things.  WTF!  I'M FROM THE SOUTH!  FRIED FOODS IS A STAPLE!

Went to dinner tonight and DID NOT choose the chicken fingers DESPITE the internal battle I had with myself.  Instead I had a grilled chicken pita, with only lettuce... BUT... I did eat fries.  OOPS!  I only had half of them though... waahh I'm such a cheater!

For lunch I had dumplins and roasted potatoes... so at least I did good then.

Let's see if I can be better tomorrow.

day 1 of 5

It's day 1 of my 5 day challenge to stay away from fried foods and everything that ISN'T water.  So far so good.  A salad with a bit of mashed taters at lunch and chicken spaghetti for dinner.  Life is good, my belly is full and as of now, I'm not missing it.  I decided to try and add something unhealthy to the list every week until I'm down to straight rabbit food.

Itty bitty bikini, here I come.

5 day challenge

I'm giving myself a 5 day challenge, and you're more than welcome to join me.

My goal is to give up fried foods and ALL drinks, other than water (and wine), for the next 5 days, Monday - Friday.

Now this SOUNDS simple, but my default food is chicken tenders and french fries.  I litterally eat it at least once every week - so this is going to be tough.  But I'm hoping to drops some LBs from this "simple task".  I'm going to dinner with  my business partner on Tuesday, so if I can avoid fried foods then, I'll feel accomplished.

Next week I'm planning to add desserts to the list.  Let's see how this goes.

Welcome to Rageville

Well today is “WTF Wednesday”…and I am definitely in a what the fuck kind of mood…but there is no reason for this mood. Well, actually I could possibly blame it on my boyfriend who kept waking me up because he would burrito** himself in the covers…consequently leaving me cold…but honestly I doubt that’s the case. Or maybe it is…heck I don’t know. Maybe it’s the fact that my boss is quitting which leaves me very uncertain about the future of my job/career. Ugh. Just trying to figure out what’s wrong with me is pissing me off.

**burrito - verb : to hold onto one corner of the cover and roll like an alligator trying to kill it's prey until you have successfully wrapped yourself tightly in the entire comforter...like a burrito

This past week/couple of weeks I’ve been on top of the world…in this awesome kind of zen place. I don’t know what has brought me crashing into Rageville today…but I do know that I want to rip everyone’s heads off Ozzy Osbourne style…remember the bat? Don’t worry, I’ve managed to talk myself down from such radical behavior…so far…but no promises for the rest of my 11 hour shift.

I may end up gaining 5 pounds today because the only thing keeping me sane is Dove dark chocolate candies. I’m literally using them like a cigarette smoker uses a nicotine patch. They are the only thing between me and an arrest.

Wish me luck on surviving the day without getting sent to jail.

An apple a day...no wait, screw that

Recently I have been trying to be more conscious about the way I treat my body...no more chili cheese fries at 1 am anymore...well, unless I'm super wasted...lol. Anyways, I'm making a conscious effort to be better to myself. So I have adopted a new ritual....

You know the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"? Well, I have adopted a new saying that I think is soooo much better...

"A glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away"

AND my doctor condones this thinking...I even have it in writing. :)

So, that's what I'm doing. I'm enjoying my daily glass of red wine. And also giving myself a pat on the back for successfully having a "Meatless Monday." It was surprisingly easier than I thought...and I've already got my menu planned for next week's meatless day too!

Cheers!

TI TAPAS

In addition to all the things I have to rant about, I have one thing to praise - T1 TAPAS in Birkdale Villiage.

What a fun place!  I took my fiance there for his birthday this weekend, and we ended up going back Sunday night.  The cool part - the digital tables!!  You order everything from the table!  The first thing my engineer future hubs did was get under the table to see how it works - typical.

Each person has a screen, they can order their food and drinks from.  You can even call the server over if you needs something.  You can make modifications to your order as well, so no worries if you want to hold the onions.

You can also turn the screens into one large screen and the entire table can play games together.  We REALLY liked this.... there were so many fun games!  There was also a TV beside the table (as you can see in the picture) you can hook up your iphone, play music, watch music videos, etc.  Seriously - tons of fun.  And last night I had the beer sampler... YUMMMMMM!  I had some kind of honey beer that I REALLY reccomend!!  DE-LISSHHHH.

The prices are around $10 per tapa - which as you know, are small portions of yum.  The bad part is - the food is SO GOOD you don't want to stop eating.  And ordering is SO FUN you don't want to stop ordering... what does this mean??  Losts of $10 tapas on your bill.  We obviously weren't too upset about it considering we went there twice in one weekend!  (My Fiance is a geek - he loves the gadgets - and I REALLY liked the music videos....)

YAY for a new fun place to eat =)  <- TIP: great first date place!

I'm having a Sushi Baby

Belle with a Twist and I just had THE MOST AMAZING lunch at this cutie little Sushi Lounge in Charlotte called Pisces.  For $11.95 we had all you can eat sushi – and it was outstanding.  It wasn’t a buffet, you actually got to order from a menu… any and everything you want!  The sushi was fresh and the portions were just the right size!  We were worried because they told us they would charge for wasting – but uh – no fear, we cleaned our plate!!!  We also ordered noodles and spring rolls, but I have to say, I think I’ll pass on the extras next time.   The noodles were NOT good and the spring rolls just didn’t do much for me.  As far as the sushi goes though, I literally look prego from all that I stuffed in my face!!  I’m definitely making that place a weekly reg!

Valentine's Day STINKS

Let me preface with I have the sweetest fiancé ever. Well, that’s actually a lie. He is quite a dbag on the reg – but he has very nice moments. Let’s start again – I have a fiancé who does really sweet stuff for me sometimes.

He is working out of town for the next two years (bummmerrrrr) and he came up to visit this weekend so we could celebrate Valentine’s Day. I’ve never been a fan of the holiday really – in high school, I wore black every VDay. By senior year the school caught on and over half the student body did too – ANTI VDAY ALL THE WAY! It was Valentine’s Day yesterday and even though I have a honey, I still wore all black. Okay I’m off on a tangent, back to the story.

He picked me up last night and when I opened the door he had a big stuffed monkey seat belted in, holding a box of chocolates and a rose, with some obnoxiously loud love song on the radio. It was honestly adorable. We tried to go to one of our favorite restaurants to drink our favorite (well my favorite) Strawberry Blonde Beer (it’s the closest thing to a pink beer there is). Bummer #1.) The damn restaurant changed names and NOT ONLY did they not sell my beer, but they didn’t have the pasta that I always order! I’m very sensitive when it comes to my food – fyi.

Our next stop was MUCH better. We found a small movie theatre by the lake and WHAT DO YOU KNOW they sold BEER and WINE! (I am TOTALLY recommending OUR TOWN CINEMAS in Davidson, NC) Even better, they sell MY beer – yummm Strawberry Blonde Beer!!! The little girl working the counter thought I was insane- I literally threw a parade over it.

SIDE NOTE **We watched 127 hours – which was good, but not what I thought. If you have a weak stomach, you’ll need a beer to keep you occupied.

Fiancé was being super cute and extra mushy. I’d repeat the sweet nothing he was whispering in my ear, but honestly I was too in love with my beer to pay him much attention.

We head home and it’s off to the good stuff – you know – the late night good stuff. I have on my Vday attire, we have the love dice out and things are looking good. Fiancé offers to give me a back rub and I am totally down (we all know where back rubs lead). He takes off my shirt, rolls me over and begins the massage. Aaahhh ----- next thing you know.......... THE BASTARD FARTS WHILE SITTING ON TOP OF ME! Are you kidding?! Not even a quiet one - and it WAS NOT an accident! He laughed hysterically and I was PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only did it make me mad because it is DISGUISTING but because we have had this conversation – he’s NOT ALLOWED TO FART BEFORE WE HAVE SEX!! I think that’s pretty fair. You may think I’m harsh, but YOU HAVE NOT smelled fiancé’s farts. THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING YOU HAVE EVER SMELLED!!!!!!!

Needless to say, I was out of the mood and not even a Strawberry Blonde beer could have fixed it. I spent the evening on the couch watching Jersey Shore waiting for the smell to die. I stick with my high school Vday philosophy….
VDAY STINKS!!!!!!!!!
